BRT Abdul Sattar Edhi Line (Orange Line)

From Town Municipality Administration (TMA), Orangi to KDA Roundabout North Nazimabad, Karachi.

Project Background

  • Orange BRT starts from Town Municipal Administration Office (Orangi Town) to Jinnah University for Women, Karachi (near Matriculation Board Office)
  • M/s NESPAK is the Detailed Design and Construction Supervision consultant of SMTA
  • The project alignment is of88 Kilometers including four (04) BRT Stations and one (01) Bus Depot (adjacent to Paposh Graveyard).
  •  The procurement of Intelligent Transport System (ITS) and 20 BRT Buses as well as BRT Operations for three (3) years have been mandated to the SIDCL (through Facilitation & Implementation Agreement between SIDCL and GoS) and the provision of funds has been included in Revised PC-1 of the project, approved in 2021.

Package # 3 (contract awarded to M/s Muhammad Ramzan & CO)

  • Package-3 work scope comprises on the procurement of 350 KVA Generator and Platform Screen Doors (for operational integration with the Green BRT project as communicated by the SIDCL).
  • The Bid Cost is PKR 165.87 million.

Status of Package # 4 (contract awarded to M/s Taj Construction)

  • Package-4 work scope comprises on Construction of Underground Fuel Tank, Steel Shed, IITS Conduits (for operational integration with Green BRT), Waste Water Treatment Plant (compliance with the SEPA requirement) in Bus Depot.
  • The Bid Cost is PKR 63.26 million.

PC-1 Status

Original PC-1 Cost (January 2015):   PKR 2.364 billion (including Infrastructure, Procurement of Buses and ITS – note that bus operations were not included)

Revised PC-1 Cost (April 2021): PKR 4.290 billion (including Infrastructure, Procurement of Buses and ITS and Bus Operations for 3 years)

Revised PC-1 includes:  PKR 2.120 billion to be given to the SIDCL for procurement of 20 buses and ITS equipment as well as Bus Operations of Orange Line for 3 years.

Current Status

The Project was inaugurated by Honorable Minister Transport & Mass Transit Department, Government of Sindh on 10th September 2022. Formal Bus Operations were commenced on the same day by the SIDCL.
