“SMTA AWARDS CONTRACT TO NRTC FOR SINDH INTRA-DISTRICT PEOPLES BUS SERVICE PROJECT IN SINDH”

27th October’21 – Karachi, Sindh - Sindh Mass Transit Authority (SMTA). Transport and Mass Transit Department, Government of Sindh (GoS) is solely focused upon providing safe, efficient and comfortable urban transportation systems in the major cities of the province of Sindh. In regard with the present situation of the intra-city public transport, SMTA has planned an “Integrated Bus Operations” system as a solution to cater for the public transport demand in six major cities of the province namely Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana and Shaheed Benazirabad.

In the 1st phase of the project, 50 buses will operate in the city of Karachi. These buses will initially operate on Route 1 (29.5 KMs – Model Colony to Tower) and Route 3 (33 KMs – Nagan chowrangi to Singer Chowrangi) in Karachi. 1 depot will be prepared at U.P MORR (6.7 Acres) in the start of the operation. In the 2nd Phase; 200 buses will operate on 6 routes of Karachi and 1 route (10.3 KMs)  of Larkana.

For the execution of this project, Government of Sindh awards Contract to National Radio Telecommunication Corporation, Ministry of Defence Production, Government of Pakistan for supply, operations & maintenance of buses & construction, operations & maintenance of bus depots & stations for the Sindh intra district peoples bus service project. The award signing ceremony was held in Karachi which was attended by dignitaries from Sindh Government, Ministry of Defence Production, Consul General of People’s Republic of China, Mr. Li Bijian and Consul General of Republic of Turkey Mr. Tolga Ucak. At the occasion, the Honorable Minister for Transport & Mass Transit Department, Mr. Syed Awais Qadir Shah said the proposed system will provide high quality of service to the public of these cities, meet the public transport demand, and contribute towards the development of a sustainable transport system in the cities.

The project will create more than 3,000 jobs for the people forming a Good Will for the Government of Sindh and will generate revenue in terms of service tax. Bus depots and Bus Stops will be developed across Sindh expanding the Fixed assets of Government of  Sindh.
